In a significant development, Shri Aloke Kumar Chakraborty, IPS, has taken over the charge as Inspector General (IG), Tripura Frontier, Border Security Force (BSF). He succeeded Shri A. K. Sharma, IG, who has been posted to Manipur.
A ceremonial event was held at the BSF Frontier Headquarters, Salbagan, to mark the formal handing over of charge. Senior officers, personnel, and staff of the BSF Tripura Frontier were present during the occasion.
Shri Aloke Kumar Chakraborty is a highly decorated officer of the Border Security Force with an illustrious service record. He is the recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, the UNMIK Medal (awarded for United Nations peacekeeping service in Kosovo), and the Ati Utkrisht Sewa Padak recognising his outstanding contribution to national security and border management.
Throughout his distinguished career, Shri Chakraborty has held diverse and challenging assignments in operational, instructional, and administrative domains. His experience spans service on the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan borders, the Line of Control (LC), and participation in Anti-Naxal operations in difficult terrains. His leadership and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism have earned him deep respect across the force.
As Inspector General of the Tripura Frontier, Shri Chakraborty will oversee BSF operations along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh international border, which remains a key sector for preventing cross-border crimes, infiltration, and smuggling. His tenure is expected to focus on strengthening operational efficiency, enhancing coordination with local law enforcement agencies, and improving the welfare and morale of BSF personnel deployed in remote border areas.
The BSF Tripura Frontier, headquartered at Salbagan, Agartala, is responsible for guarding a substantial stretch of the India-Bangladesh border.
