In a major counter-terror operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested three suspected ISIS operatives from Ahmedabad who were allegedly conspiring to carry out coordinated terror attacks across India.
According to official sources, the suspects had been under surveillance for nearly a year and were apprehended while attempting to exchange weapons. Preliminary investigations suggest that the individuals were part of two separate ISIS-linked modules operating in different parts of the country. The ATS has begun detailed interrogations to identify their associates, intended targets, and specific locations that were being planned for attacks.
“The terrorists had come to Gujarat for a weapon exchange and were planning attacks at multiple locations across India,” the ATS said in a statement. The arrests mark another major success for the Gujarat ATS in disrupting extremist networks operating within the country.
Earlier this year, the same agency had busted an Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) module, arresting five operatives, including a woman from Bengaluru accused of running an online radicalization network with links to Pakistani handlers. The accused — identified as Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali — were arrested on July 22 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
An illegal semi-automatic pistol and live ammunition were also recovered from Zeeshan Ali’s residence in Noida during a follow-up operation. The crackdown was led by Police Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and PSI A.R. Chaudhary under the supervision of DySP Virajeetsinh Parmar.
The AQIS module had been allegedly promoting extremist propaganda under the banner of “Ghazwa-e-Hind,” inciting violence against India’s democratic institutions and targeting non-Muslims. Later, the ATS arrested Shama Parveen from Bengaluru on July 27 for her key role in coordinating online communications and ideological indoctrination for the group.
With the recent ISIS arrests, Gujarat ATS has once again reaffirmed its vigilance and capability in neutralizing emerging terror threats. Investigations are ongoing to trace funding networks, communication links, and cross-border connections of the arrested individuals.
