India and the United States have successfully concluded the 22nd Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting in Hawaii, marking a major step forward in bilateral defence ties. The discussions focused on advancing the recently signed Framework for India–US Major Defence Partnership, while also exploring deeper collaboration in emerging domains such as artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, combat medicine, joint training, and operational logistics, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) announced.

The meeting was co-chaired by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), and Lt Gen Joshua M. Rudd, Deputy Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command. Senior military officials from both sides participated in what the IDS described as “productive and forward-looking” discussions aimed at enhancing interoperability and strengthening the Indo-Pacific security architecture.

Both nations reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the importance of regular strategic and operational-level dialogue through the MCG forum.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The meeting follows the signing of a 10-year Defence Framework Agreement between India and the US earlier this week in Kuala Lumpur. The agreement, signed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, lays out a long-term roadmap for joint military collaboration, capability enhancement, and new defence projects across the Indo-Pacific.

Calling the framework the start of a “new chapter” in bilateral defence ties, Rajnath Singh expressed confidence that the partnership would “further strengthen under mutual trust and strategic alignment.”

Hegseth described the agreement as a “defining moment” for the India–US defence relationship, underscoring America’s long-term commitment to a secure Indo-Pacific.

“This 10-year US-India Defence Framework is ambitious and significant. It provides a roadmap for deeper and more meaningful collaboration ahead,” Hegseth said.

The conclusion of the 22nd MCG meeting and the new framework agreement together mark a pivotal milestone in India–US defence cooperation, expanding from traditional military engagement to next-generation technologies and joint operational readiness.
