The Indian Navy will host its first-ever half marathon in Chennai on December 14, with an estimated 10,000 participants expected to take part in the event. The initiative aims to promote fitness, national unity, and social awareness under key themes โ Drug-Free India, Women Power, and Stand Against Online Gambling.
Announcing the event at INS Adyar Naval Headquarters, Commodore Suvarat Magon, Naval Officer-in-Charge for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said the marathon would go beyond just a sporting event.
โThis competition will not be like the usual marathons. It is an attempt to unite people to improve physical strength, national unity, and the spirit of service,โ he said.
The marathon will feature three categories:
- INS Adyar Half Marathon (21.1 km) โ open to participants above 18 years.
- INS Parundu Run (10 km) โ open to participants above 15 years.
- INS Pallava Fun Run (5 km) โ open to all age groups.
Commodore Magon also unveiled the official race T-shirt and announced that the event carries a total prize pool of โน10 lakh across various categories.
All participants will be provided with essential amenities including medical assistance, hydration points, and ambulance support along the route.
The Chennai Half Marathon is part of a nationwide series of Navy-led fitness events designed to foster a healthy lifestyle and reinforce the bond between the Armed Forces and citizens.
