Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander, Sapta Shakti Command, and Colonel of the Madras Regiment, visited the 2nd Battalion of the Madras Regiment, reaffirming his deep connection with one of the Indian Army’s most storied and valiant infantry regiments.
Commending the Valiant ‘Thambis’
Addressing all ranks of the battalion, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh commended the valiant ‘Thambis’ for their unwavering dedication, discipline, and professional excellence. He praised their operational readiness, teamwork, and commitment to upholding the Regiment’s proud ethos, urging them to continue performing with zeal, enthusiasm, and devotion to duty.
The Army Commander reminded the troops that their legacy of courage, honour, and sacrifice continues to inspire future generations, and called upon them to live up to the richest traditions of the Madras Regiment — one of the oldest and most decorated infantry regiments of the Indian Army.
Upholding Spiritual and Social Traditions
As the Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Manjinder Singh also visited the Shri Mahaganapathy Temple, a revered regimental shrine, where he offered prayers for the continued success and glory of the Regiment and the Indian Army.
In a gesture reflecting the Regiment’s enduring spirit of service and compassion, he distributed wheelchairs as part of a charitable initiative from the temple to support marginalised sections of society, reinforcing the Regiment’s commitment to community welfare and inclusivity.
Strengthening Regimental Pride and Cohesion
The visit underscored the Army Commander’s emphasis on regimental bonding, moral strength, and soldier welfare — values that remain central to the Indian Army’s professional ethos. Under his leadership, the Madras Regiment continues to uphold its motto, “Swadharme Nidhanam Shreyaha” — It is Glory to Die Doing One’s Duty.
