The Indian Army achieved a major logistics milestone on December 16, 2025, with the successful induction of tanks and artillery guns into the Kashmir Valley using a Military Special Train, significantly enhancing operational mobility and readiness in the region.

As part of a comprehensive validation exercise, heavy military assets—including tanks, artillery guns, and engineering dozers—were transported seamlessly from the Jammu region to Anantnag in South Kashmir. The successful movement demonstrated the Army’s growing capability for rapid logistics mobilisation and swift deployment of combat equipment in challenging terrain.

The milestone was accomplished through close coordination with the Ministry of Railways, highlighting the strategic importance of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The rail corridor has emerged as a critical enabler for quick build-up of military logistics, allowing faster, safer, and more reliable transportation of heavy equipment into the Valley.

Military planners view the successful induction as a transformational step in strengthening operational preparedness along India’s northern borders, reducing dependence on road-based logistics and improving all-weather connectivity.
The achievement underscores the Indian Army’s focus on modernising logistics infrastructure, improving joint coordination with civilian agencies, and enhancing strategic responsiveness in sensitive border regions.
