The National Integration Tour for students from Manipur reached an important milestone in Kolkata, as participants deepened their understanding of India’s educational, cultural and military heritage. The visit aimed at broadening perspectives and fostering a stronger sense of national unity among the youth.
A key highlight of the tour took place on December 18, when the student contingent visited Vijay Smarak, the Headquarters of Eastern Command. During the visit, the students had the privilege of interacting with Lieutenant General R C Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command. The Army Commander shared valuable insights on leadership, discipline and core military values, while also explaining the importance of national security and selfless service to the nation. His interaction instilled a strong sense of responsibility, motivation and national pride among the young participants.
Beyond the military engagement, the students were exposed to the historical and contemporary dimensions of Kolkata, popularly known as the City of Joy. The itinerary included a scenic ferry ride across the Hooghly River, offering insights into riverfront development and the role of sustainable urban planning. The group also visited Acropolis Mall, giving many students their first exposure to a modern shopping complex and an understanding of the evolving urban service sector.
The day concluded with a visit to the iconic Mohun Bagan Stadium, where students were introduced to India’s rich football legacy and the enduring spirit of sporting excellence.
Organised by the Assam Rifles, the National Integration Tour continues to serve as a vital bridge between the North East and the rest of the country. By exposing students to India’s diverse institutions, cultural vibrancy and national ethos, the initiative reinforces the spirit of unity in diversity and inspires the youth to actively contribute to the nation’s future progress.
