In a landmark development for the Territorial Army, 164 Infantry Battalion (TA) (Home & Hearth) NAGA, under the Eastern Command, successfully conducted a recruitment rally at Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland from November 15 to 24, 2025.

The event marked a historic first: the Territorial Army opened participation for young women, aligning with the Army’s broader push toward inclusivity and women empowerment. Upon selection, these candidates will become the first-ever women soldiers to serve in the Territorial Army’s Home and Hearth Battalions.

The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from local youth, reflecting the strong aspiration among the people of Nagaland to serve the nation. Officials noted that the inclusion of women represents a transformative step in strengthening the force’s diversity, operational capability, and societal outreach.

This milestone underscores the Indian Army’s continued efforts to create gender-inclusive opportunities while enhancing representation from the Northeast in national defence structures.
