Major General Ajay Feroze Shah assumed charge as the Chief of Staff of the Andaman and Nicobar Command on January 7, 2026. He took over the appointment from Biplab Hota, VSM, in a formal handover.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Major General Shah brings with him rich operational experience and extensive exposure to joint and integrated military operations. His professional background spans key command and staff appointments, equipping him to contribute effectively to India’s only tri-service theatre command.
The Andaman & Nicobar Command plays a critical role in safeguarding India’s strategic interests in the eastern Indian Ocean Region, overseeing joint operations of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. As Chief of Staff, Major General Shah is expected to further strengthen inter-service coordination, operational readiness, and the overall effectiveness of the command.
The assumption of charge marks a continuity in leadership at the Andaman & Nicobar Command, with a focus on enhancing jointness, responsiveness, and mission preparedness in a strategically vital maritime domain.
