General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), felicitated Naik Gourang Nayak (Retd) with the prestigious ‘Veteran Achievers Award’ during his visit to the Army Air Defence College.
The award recognises Naik Nayak’s exceptional contributions to nation-building and youth empowerment following his retirement from military service.
Hailing from the remote Koraput region of Odisha, Gourang Nayak has been actively spearheading youth development initiatives in far-flung areas. Through his efforts, he has inspired and mobilised local youth to become productive members of society and pursue careers in the armed forces and security services.
His Youth Academy has successfully mentored young aspirants, with 32 students already joining the Army, CAPF, and police forces, reflecting the tangible impact of his grassroots efforts.
Commending his dedication, Gen Dwivedi highlighted that service to the nation extends beyond active duty, and veterans continue to play a vital role in shaping society and strengthening the nation.
The recognition underscores the Indian Army’s deep respect for its veterans and their enduring contributions, reinforcing the ethos that “Service is a lifelong journey” in building a stronger and united India.
