IAF Wing Commander Vipul Yadav Found Dead at Residence in Raipur, Police Suspect Suicide

Raipur witnessed a tragic incident on March 11, 2026, when Wing Commander Vipul Yadav, a 39-year-old officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF), was found dead at his official residence in Vidhayak Colony (MLA Colony) under the Telibandha police station area. Authorities suspect the case to be a suicide, though a detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.

According to police officials, the body of Wing Commander Yadav was discovered early in the morning by his domestic help. He was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his room with the door locked from the inside. At the time of the incident, his two children—a son and a daughter—were asleep in another room of the house. His wife, who works in the information technology sector in Bengaluru and is reported to have previously served in the Indian Air Force, was not present in Raipur when the incident occurred.

Police stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene, which has made it difficult to determine the exact reason behind the tragic act. Investigators have seized the officer’s mobile phone and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis in order to examine digital communications and other possible clues regarding his mental state or any personal issues.

The body was sent for post-mortem examination soon after the discovery, and following the procedure it was handed over to family members who arrived in Raipur from different parts of the country. Authorities have registered a case and are currently recording statements from family members, neighbors, and colleagues as part of the ongoing investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Wing Commander Vipul Yadav originally hailed from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, though he was known to be residing in Haryana with his family. He was posted in Chhattisgarh and was involved in operations supporting anti-Naxal efforts in the region. His responsibilities reportedly included aerial surveillance and logistical coordination in operations aimed at combating left-wing extremism, which remains a significant security challenge in parts of the state.

Colleagues and local residents have described him as a committed and disciplined officer dedicated to his duties. While the Indian Air Force has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, sources indicate that an internal inquiry may be initiated to determine whether any professional factors contributed to the situation.

The incident has deeply saddened the local community and the wider defence fraternity, with many expressing condolences for the officer’s family. Chhattisgarh police have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation continues.

The tragedy has also renewed discussions around mental health support for personnel serving in high-pressure operational environments. Experts emphasize the importance of strengthening psychological support systems and early intervention measures for armed forces personnel deployed in demanding roles.

Authorities have assured that further details will be shared as the investigation progresses. For individuals experiencing emotional distress, confidential support is available through national helplines such as the National Mental Health Helpline (14416) and other crisis support services.
