Major General Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General (ADG) of the NCC Maharashtra Directorate, paid a courtesy call on Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, during his review-cum-inspection visit to Nagpur on May 1, 2026. The meeting underscored the National Cadet Corps’ (NCC) ongoing efforts to expand its presence in the remote regions of Vidarbha.
During the interaction, Maj Gen Tyagi extended greetings on Maharashtra Day and highlighted the active role played by NCC cadets in nation-building initiatives. He emphasized their contributions to community development campaigns such as road safety awareness, anti-drug drives, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, aligning with the broader vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

A key focus of the meeting was the need to strengthen NCC infrastructure in the state. Maj Gen Tyagi sought the Minister’s support for establishing dedicated facilities in Nagpur, Mumbai, and Kolhapur, including a proposed State Academy at Nagpur aimed at enhancing training capacity and outreach.
Responding positively, Gadkari commended the NCC’s pivotal role in youth empowerment and character building. He assured full support from his ministry in augmenting infrastructure and creating more opportunities for cadets across Maharashtra.

The meeting was attended by Group Captain Kushal Vyas, NCC Group Commander, and Lieutenant Colonel Ameey Kanade, Training Officer, NCC Group Nagpur.
As part of his visit, Maj Gen Tyagi also toured the Officers Training Academy (OTA) NCC at Kamptee. He reviewed the academy’s training modules and gained insights into ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing training for NCC instructors. The visit reflected the transformative restructuring efforts being undertaken by the NCC Headquarters to further enhance the organization’s effectiveness.

The interaction marks a significant step toward strengthening NCC’s institutional framework in Maharashtra, particularly in underserved regions, while reinforcing its role in shaping disciplined and socially responsible youth.
