In a significant boost to youth development and military training initiatives, the Ministry of Defence has approved the establishment of independent National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorates for Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. With this decision, the total number of NCC State Directorates in the country will increase to 19.
The move is aimed at strengthening the administrative framework of the NCC and providing greater opportunities for cadets in both states to participate in nationally important training programmes and camps.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the new directorates will enable more cadets to attend centrally organised events such as the Republic Day Parade Camp, All India Thal Sainik Camp and other prestigious NCC activities. The initiative is also expected to enhance access to military-oriented training and adventure programmes, including mountaineering expeditions, trekking and parasailing.
Officials stated that the new administrative structure will facilitate more focused coordination, improved supervision and better support for training and developmental activities. The directorates are expected to strengthen training infrastructure and provide enhanced support mechanisms for cadets across both states.
In Andhra Pradesh, the new NCC Directorate is expected to further integrate NCC programmes with educational institutions, encouraging greater participation among students and expanding opportunities for leadership development, discipline and nation-building.
The Ministry noted that the decision is likely to increase youth enrolment in the NCC by improving accessibility to training and creating a more efficient administrative system tailored to the specific needs of the two states.
Established in 1948 with around 20,000 cadets, the NCC has grown into the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation, with a current strength of nearly two million cadets. Today, NCC activities are conducted across more than 750 districts nationwide, providing young people with opportunities for leadership development, community service and military-oriented training.
The Ministry highlighted that the expansion aligns with the government’s vision of empowering youth and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Officials emphasized that the new directorates will play a key role in nurturing confident, capable and socially responsible citizens while strengthening the NCC’s contribution to nation-building and youth empowerment across Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand.
