Expedition to a Challenging Himalayan Peak

Mt Kang Yatse-II is a prominent high-altitude peak in Ladakh and is widely regarded as a demanding Himalayan summit. The peak is commonly listed at around 6,250 metres and is associated with the Markha Valley region of Ladakh, making it a serious test of stamina, acclimatisation and mountaineering skill.

The attempt will require the team to negotiate difficult terrain, extreme weather, low oxygen levels and the physical challenges associated with operating at high altitude. Such expeditions demand not only technical preparedness but also strong mental resilience and close coordination among team members.

Led by Lt Col Nishant Karki

The ASC team is being led by Lt Col Nishant Karki, who will guide the 12-member team during the expedition. The team includes 04 Officers and 08 Jawans, representing the discipline, courage and adventure-driven ethos of the Indian Army.

For the members of the expedition, the climb is not only a mountaineering challenge but also a tribute to the proud legacy of the Army Service Corps. The expedition symbolises the qualities that define soldiers in uniform: courage, perseverance, camaraderie and mission focus.

Commemorating the 12th ASC Reunion

The expedition has been planned to commemorate the 12th ASC Reunion, adding special significance to the climb. Reunions in the Army are important occasions to celebrate regimental history, honour service traditions and strengthen bonds among serving personnel, veterans and families.

By undertaking a mountaineering expedition to Mt Kang Yatse-II, the ASC is marking the occasion through an activity that reflects both military values and the adventurous spirit of the Corps.

Spirit of Adventure and Endurance

The Indian Army has a long tradition of encouraging adventure activities, including mountaineering, trekking, skydiving, sailing and cycling expeditions. These activities help build leadership, confidence, decision-making ability and team spirit among soldiers.

The ASC Mountaineering Expedition to Mt Kang Yatse-II stands as another example of this tradition. It showcases the ability of Indian Army personnel to operate in demanding environments and push the limits of human endurance.

As the team moves towards its summit attempt, the expedition will serve as a powerful reminder of the Indian Army’s commitment to excellence, adventure and mission readiness.
