Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, visited an Assam Rifles Battalion deployed in Mizoram to review operational preparedness and assess the prevailing security situation along the Indo-Myanmar Border.
During the visit, the Corps Commander received a detailed briefing on the battalion’s operational readiness, border management measures and ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the region. The review focused on maintaining a high level of preparedness to counter evolving security challenges along the international border.

Lt Gen Kalia commended the troops for their professionalism, dedication and operational excellence in carrying out their responsibilities under demanding conditions. He appreciated the battalion’s sustained success in counter-insurgency, anti-narcotics and border security operations, highlighting the crucial role played by Assam Rifles in safeguarding national interests and maintaining stability in the Northeast.
The Army Commander also visited the Bevela Lushai Centre, praising it as a beacon of hope for the youth of Mizoram. He lauded the institution’s contribution towards nurturing young talent and providing quality educational opportunities that empower students to pursue professional careers and contribute to nation-building.
Emphasising the importance of balancing robust security measures with community engagement, Lt Gen Kalia highlighted the role of civil-military initiatives in fostering trust, development and long-term peace in the region.

Officials noted that the visit reaffirmed the Indian Army and Assam Rifles’ commitment to maintaining operational excellence while strengthening outreach programmes that positively impact local communities.
