Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, Army Commander Northern Command, visited Pahalgam and Chandanwari to review the prevailing security situation and assess operational preparedness along the Southern Route ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
During the visit, the Army Commander was briefed on the comprehensive security arrangements, deployment plans and preparedness measures being implemented to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage. He reviewed the operational readiness of troops and the coordination mechanisms established to address potential security and logistical challenges along the route.

Lt Gen Sharma assessed various aspects of the security architecture, including surveillance measures, force deployment, emergency response capabilities and infrastructure support for pilgrims. He also reviewed ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing situational awareness and maintaining a secure environment throughout the yatra period.
The Army Commander interacted with troops deployed in the region and commended them for their professionalism, vigilance and dedication in maintaining a high state of readiness. He emphasised the importance of sustained alertness and seamless coordination among all agencies involved in the security and management of the pilgrimage.

The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure pilgrimage for thousands of devotees expected to participate in the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The Army is working closely with civil administration, security agencies and other stakeholders to provide comprehensive security coverage and operational support.
Through vigilant security measures, robust preparedness and coordinated efforts, the Indian Army aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of the yatra while ensuring the safety and well-being of all pilgrims travelling through the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir.
