Maj Gen Anuj Chawla assumed charge as the Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Officers Training College, AMC Centre and College, on 01 June 2026. He took over the appointment from Maj Gen VK Patra, marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of the most important training institutions of the Armed Forces Medical Services.
The Officers Training College at AMC Centre and College plays a crucial role in shaping young medical, dental and healthcare officers of the Armed Forces. The institution is responsible for imparting military orientation, professional values, leadership training and service ethos to officers who go on to serve in diverse operational, field and peace-time medical assignments across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Maj Gen Anuj Chawla is an alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and the National Defence College, New Delhi. A distinguished Physiologist, he brings with him vast academic, training and administrative experience acquired over a career spanning more than three decades in the Armed Forces Medical Services.
During his illustrious service, Maj Gen Chawla has held several important appointments and has contributed significantly to medical education, training and institutional administration. Prior to taking over his present assignment, he served as Brigadier In-charge Training at AFMC Pune, where he was closely associated with the training and professional development of future medical officers.

His appointment as Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Officers Training College comes at a time when military medical training is evolving in response to the changing nature of modern warfare. The focus on combat casualty care, advanced trauma management, field medical preparedness, leadership under operational conditions and joint service medical support has become increasingly important for officers of the Armed Forces Medical Services.

As Commandant and Chief Instructor, Maj Gen Chawla will be responsible for guiding the training philosophy, leadership development and professional grooming of young medical and dental officers passing through the portals of the Officers Training College. His rich experience in academics and training is expected to further strengthen the institution’s role in preparing officers for the complex medical and operational challenges of contemporary military service.
