Major General V K Patra assumed the appointment of Major General Medical (MG Medical), Headquarters Uttar Bharat Area on June 6, 2026, succeeding Major General Jaswinder Singh.
A highly accomplished ophthalmologist and military medical professional, Maj Gen Patra brings with him extensive experience in clinical medicine, military training, academics and leadership acquired over a distinguished career in the Army Medical Corps.
Prior to assuming his new appointment, he served as the Commandant and Chief Instructor of the Officers Training College AMC Centre and College, where he played a key role in shaping future military medical officers and strengthening professional military medical education.

Known for his contributions to training and institutional development, Maj Gen Patra has earned recognition for fostering excellence in academics, leadership development and medical preparedness within the Armed Forces Medical Services.
As MG Medical, Uttar Bharat Area, he will oversee medical planning, healthcare delivery and operational medical support across the formation, while contributing to the enhancement of combat medical capabilities and healthcare services for soldiers, veterans and their families.
Officials noted that his rich experience in military medicine and training is expected to further strengthen operational medical preparedness and drive innovation in combat healthcare systems across the area of responsibility.
