Command Hospital Central Command achieved a significant milestone with the successful performance of its first paediatric cochlear implant surgery on 8 July 2026, marking a major advancement in specialised hearing care for children.
The procedure was performed by the hospital’s ENT team on a 2-year-5-month-old child diagnosed with profound sensorineural hearing loss. The surgery is expected to significantly improve the child’s ability to develop speech, language and communication skills, enhancing overall quality of life.
The achievement follows the commissioning of the Centre for Audio Vestibular Therapy: Early Assessment and Rehabilitation (COCHLEA), a pioneering facility established in alignment with the objectives of the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness.
The successful surgery underscores Command Hospital Central Command’s growing expertise in comprehensive cochlear implant care and its commitment to providing world-class medical treatment through innovation, specialised clinical capabilities and compassionate patient care.
The milestone reflects the Indian Army’s continued efforts to strengthen advanced healthcare services and deliver cutting-edge medical solutions for serving personnel, veterans and their families.
