Dras, Ladakh, July 25: The commemorative events marking the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas began on Saturday with the solemn ceremony of Yudh Sansmaran at the scenic Lamochen View Point in Dras, a location overlooking the historic Kargil battlefield where some of the fiercest battles of the 1999 Kargil War were fought. The ceremony served as a tribute to the extraordinary courage, supreme sacrifice and unwavering spirit of the Indian soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty during the conflict.
The event brought together serving soldiers, senior Army officers, Kargil War veterans, Veer Naris, Veer Matas and the families of the fallen heroes in a deeply emotional and patriotic atmosphere. Against the backdrop of the rugged Himalayan mountains that witnessed the historic conflict, participants paid homage to the brave soldiers whose sacrifices ensured India’s victory in the Kargil War.
Maj Gen Amit Prakash Singh, General Officer Commanding Forever in Operations Division, led the tribute ceremony alongside senior Army officials. One of the most moving moments of the event was the felicitation of the Next of Kin of the Kargil heroes.
