Major General Sanjay Maurya Assumes Charge as Commandant of AICTS Pune

Major General Sanjay Maurya, VSM, has assumed the appointment of Commandant of the Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AICTS), Pune, on 20 July 2026. A highly accomplished officer of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Maj Gen Maurya brings with him decades of distinguished service in military medicine, academic excellence, and hospital administration.

An alumnus of the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Maj Gen Maurya is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon of national repute. Throughout his illustrious career, he has earned recognition for his expertise in complex reconstructive procedures and his contributions to advancing surgical care within the Armed Forces. In addition to his clinical accomplishments, he is widely respected as a postgraduate teacher who has mentored numerous generations of military surgeons and medical specialists.

Maj Gen Maurya has held several prestigious appointments during his career. He served as the Head of the Department (HoD) of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at both AFMC Pune and the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, two of the country’s premier military medical institutions. In these leadership roles, he played a pivotal part in clinical excellence, specialist training, and medical research, contributing significantly to the development of advanced reconstructive surgery within the Armed Forces Medical Services.

His distinguished command experience includes leading the 92 Base Hospital in an operational area, where he oversaw the delivery of critical medical support under challenging operational conditions. He also commanded the Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Kolkata, one of the largest tertiary care military hospitals in Eastern India, demonstrating exceptional administrative and healthcare leadership.

A recipient of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), Maj Gen Maurya has been honoured for his distinguished service of a high order, reflecting his outstanding contributions to military healthcare, patient care, medical education, and institutional development over the years.

As Commandant of AICTS Pune, Maj Gen Maurya is expected to further strengthen the institution’s role as a centre of excellence in transfusion medicine, specialist healthcare, medical research, and professional training. His vast experience in surgery, academics, and command appointments is expected to enhance the institute’s capabilities while supporting the continued modernisation of healthcare services for the Indian Armed Forces.

The appointment underscores the Indian Armed Forces’ commitment to placing experienced and accomplished medical leaders at the helm of its premier institutions.
