Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram, VSM (Retd.) assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, on 2 July 2026.
Commissioned into the Indian Navy on 10 November 1989, Rear Admiral Raghuram served with distinction for over 35 years, building an illustrious career across naval engineering, ship maintenance, strategic planning and leadership. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2017.
An alumnus of the Naval College of Engineering, Lonavala, Cranfield University (United Kingdom), the Naval War College and the National Defence College, he possesses extensive expertise in afloat operations, equipment life cycle support, research and development, warship design, combat system integration and instructional assignments.
During his naval career, he served onboard frontline warships INS Gomati and INS Trishul, including as a member of the commissioning crew of INS Trishul. His assignments at the Naval Dockyard, Afloat Support Team for Talwar-class ships, and the Weapons and Electronics Systems Engineering Establishment (WESEE) significantly contributed to his expertise in life cycle support and combat system integration.
Rear Admiral Raghuram also held several key leadership appointments, including Commanding Officer of INS Valsura, Principal Director Electrical Engineering at Naval Headquarters, Command Electrical Officer at Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, Chief Staff Officer (Technical) at Headquarters Western Naval Command, and senior appointments at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Prior to his retirement, he served as the Assistant Chief of Materiel, overseeing the maintenance of critical Indian Navy platforms.
As the new CMD of HSL, Rear Admiral Raghuram will spearhead the shipyard’s efforts to strengthen its position as a strategic defence shipbuilding enterprise while advancing India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat through enhanced indigenous maritime defence capabilities.
