New Delhi, July 25, 2026: Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command, called on General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), following the latter’s assumption of office as the Chief of the Indian Army.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two senior military leaders to discuss key strategic and operational issues concerning national security, with a particular focus on strengthening India’s defence posture along the Eastern Seaboard.

During the interaction, the discussions centred on ongoing maritime operations and the evolving security environment in the eastern maritime domain. The leaders reviewed measures aimed at reinforcing the security framework in the region while addressing emerging operational challenges across the maritime and coastal theatres.

A major focus of the meeting was enhancing inter-Service cooperation between the Indian Army and the Indian Navy. Recognising the increasing importance of integrated military operations, both leaders emphasised the need for closer coordination, seamless information sharing and joint planning to effectively respond to evolving security threats.

The interaction also highlighted the importance of improving joint operational preparedness, ensuring that the Armed Forces remain capable of undertaking coordinated responses across multiple domains. Enhanced synergy between the services is considered essential for safeguarding India’s maritime interests, protecting critical infrastructure and responding effectively to conventional as well as emerging security challenges.

The meeting reflects the Indian Armed Forces’ continued emphasis on fostering greater integration among the three services in line with the nation’s drive towards jointness and theatre-level operational coordination. Strengthening cooperation between the Army and Navy is expected to further enhance India’s ability to secure its eastern maritime frontier and maintain a robust defence posture in the strategically significant Indo-Pacific region.
