Army Public School (APS) Meerut has added another proud chapter to its sporting legacy as its Under-15 football team emerged champions of the AWES National Football Championship 2026. The young footballers delivered an impressive campaign on the national stage, demonstrating the discipline, determination and team spirit associated with Army Public Schools.
The championship victory has brought recognition not only to APS Meerut but also to the wider Army Welfare Education Society sporting ecosystem, where competitive sports form an important part of students’ overall development. APS Meerut’s achievement has also been highlighted through the school’s official social-media presence, celebrating the team as champions of the AWES National Football Championship 2026.
Following their national triumph, the young champions were felicitated by Major General Sumit Rana, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Paschim Uttar Pradesh Sub Area (PUPSA), and Brigadier Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Deputy GOC. The interaction recognised the players’ achievement as well as the discipline, grit and collective spirit that powered their successful campaign.
Major General Sumit Rana heads the Paschim Uttar Pradesh Sub Area and has been associated with initiatives concerning the Army and the wider community in Meerut. In July 2026, he was reported to have personally reviewed the condition of a damaged public road in the Kankerkhera area and directed that repairs be undertaken on priority by the Military Engineering Services.
For the APS Meerut footballers, however, winning the AWES national title is not the end of the campaign. The team has qualified for the 65th Subroto Mukerjee International Football Cup 2026, taking the young players from an inter-Army Public School competition to one of the most prominent school-level football platforms in the country. Reports celebrating the team’s victory have confirmed its qualification for the prestigious tournament.
The progression to the Subroto Cup represents a major opportunity for the young players. The tournament traditionally provides school footballers with a highly competitive environment in which teams from different regions and institutions test themselves against some of the strongest youth sides. For APS Meerut, qualification means its U-15 players will now have the opportunity to carry their winning momentum onto an even bigger stage.

What makes the team’s achievement particularly significant is the emphasis placed on qualities beyond the final scoreline. During the felicitation, the players were hailed for their discipline, grit and unbreakable team spirit—attributes that closely mirror the values encouraged within the Army Public School system.
Football at the youth level demands more than individual skill. Players must learn to operate as a unit, communicate under pressure, recover quickly from setbacks and remain committed to a common objective. APS Meerut’s championship campaign has become an example of how these qualities can translate into sporting success.
For the students, the experience of representing their school at the national level also offers lessons extending far beyond the football field. Training consistently, competing under pressure, respecting opponents and remaining composed in victory and defeat help develop confidence, resilience and leadership—qualities that can shape their future regardless of whether they eventually pursue professional sport, the Armed Forces or another career.
The achievement is also a moment of pride for the coaches, teachers, school administration and families who have supported the players through their preparation and competition. A championship-winning youth team is rarely built during a single tournament; it is usually the result of sustained training, fitness, tactical preparation and encouragement over an extended period.
The felicitation by senior Army officers therefore marked both a celebration and the beginning of the team’s next challenge. With the AWES National Football Championship title secured, attention will now shift towards preparing for the 65th Subroto Mukerjee International Football Cup 2026.
Expectations will naturally rise after the national championship victory, but the message surrounding the team remains focused on continued improvement rather than resting on past success. The players will now have to carry the same discipline and cohesion into a competition where the intensity and quality of opposition are expected to increase.
For APS Meerut’s U-15 football warriors, the journey can aptly be summed up in four words: champions today, contenders tomorrow. They have already proved themselves on the AWES national stage. Their next mission is to make their presence felt at the Subroto Cup and continue representing their school, the Army Public School fraternity and their supporters with pride.

As the young footballers prepare for their next challenge, their achievement serves as an inspiring reminder to students across the country: dream big, train hard, play as a team and never allow one victory to become the finish line.
