Brigadier Amit Kumar Chand, SC, Deputy Director General (DDG), National Cadet Corps, Uttar Pradesh Directorate, visited 15 UP Battalion NCC at Prayagraj to review its training infrastructure, preparedness and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening the training environment for NCC cadets.
During the visit, Brig Amit Kumar Chand was briefed on the rich history and legacy of the Battalion, whose origins can be traced to 1 UP Rifles Battalion established in 1917. The historical association reflects more than a century of military and youth-training tradition connected with the unit.
The DDG NCC was given an overview of the Battalion’s development over the years, its training responsibilities and its role in nurturing generations of NCC cadets. The visit also provided an opportunity to assess the infrastructure available for conducting regular training activities and preparing cadets for various NCC camps.
Brig Amit Kumar Chand inspected the newly developed classrooms and training sheds established at the Battalion. He appreciated the improvement in infrastructure and the efforts undertaken to create better facilities for cadets undergoing theoretical and practical training.
Modern and adequately equipped classrooms play an important role in NCC training, allowing cadets to receive structured instruction in subjects ranging from military awareness and leadership to map reading, field craft, disaster management and social service.

Training sheds similarly provide dedicated spaces for practical activities and enable training to continue in a structured manner under varying weather conditions. Such facilities are particularly useful when preparing large numbers of cadets for institutional training and camps.
The DDG also appreciated the availability of ordnance stores at the Battalion. Proper availability and management of training equipment are essential for providing cadets with practical exposure and ensuring that units remain prepared for scheduled training activities and camps.
The improvements have significantly enhanced the training capabilities of 15 UP Battalion NCC and strengthened its preparedness for NCC camps. Camps constitute an important component of the NCC system and provide cadets with opportunities to experience disciplined community living, structured training, physical activities, leadership exercises and interaction with cadets from different institutions and regions.
The National Cadet Corps plays an important role in developing character, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service among young people. Through regular institutional training and camps, cadets are exposed to activities intended to develop confidence, teamwork and a sense of responsibility.
NCC units across Uttar Pradesh work with schools and colleges to provide structured training to cadets while also preparing selected individuals for major camps and competitions. The quality of infrastructure available at battalion level therefore directly contributes to the effectiveness and consistency of training.
Visits by senior NCC officers are important for assessing training standards, infrastructure and administrative preparedness while also identifying areas where further improvements can be introduced. Such interactions additionally provide units with guidance on strengthening training programmes and maintaining required standards.
Brig Amit Kumar Chand’s visit to 15 UP Battalion NCC highlighted both the historic legacy of the Battalion and its continuing efforts to modernise its training environment. The combination of improved classrooms, dedicated training sheds and availability of ordnance stores provides the unit with stronger facilities for preparing its cadets.
The Battalion’s origins dating back to 1 UP Rifles Battalion in 1917 add a distinctive historical dimension to the unit. Preserving this legacy while improving contemporary training infrastructure reflects the continuing evolution of the organisation to meet the requirements of present-day NCC training.
The DDG’s appreciation of the facilities and preparedness of the Battalion recognised the efforts of its personnel towards creating an effective training ecosystem for cadets. The enhanced infrastructure is expected to support regular training as well as improve the Battalion’s ability to prepare contingents for NCC camps and other activities.
The visit reaffirmed the Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate’s emphasis on quality training, adequate infrastructure and institutional preparedness as important elements in developing disciplined, confident and responsible young citizens through the National Cadet Corps.
