Patna, August 25, 2026: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan was allegedly lured under the pretext of meeting a girl, kidnapped, confined and assaulted for nearly 48 hours in a Patna University hostel, and forced to part with approximately ₹3 lakh from his bank accounts. Two students of the university have been arrested in connection with the case, police said.

The victim has been identified as Nabij Kumar (also referred to in reports as Nabiz, Navez or Naveez Kumar), a General Duty (GD) constable of the CISF. A native of Khangraitha village under Hayaghat police station limits in Darbhanga district, he is currently posted at the CISF Eastern Sector Headquarters in Patna.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to the complaint and police investigation, Nabij Kumar had been in telephonic or messaging contact with a person posing as a girl for some time. On the night of August 15, 2026 (Independence Day), he was called to the Pirbahore (also spelled Peerbhore) area of Patna on the promise of a meeting. Upon reaching the spot — reports mention the vicinity of Krishna Ghat in some accounts — two young men overpowered him.

The accused took him to an empty room (identified in one report as room number 4) in Minto Hostel on the Patna University campus. There, they confined him for about two days (roughly 48 hours). During this period, the jawan was allegedly beaten and threatened. His mobile phone and two State Bank of India (SBI) debit cards were seized. Using these, the accused withdrew or transferred approximately ₹3 lakh from his bank accounts.

Police sources indicated that the accused kept constant watch on him. On August 17, while the two men stepped out to fetch water and left the door open, the jawan managed to escape. He immediately reached the Pirbahore police station and lodged a formal complaint detailing the entire episode. An FIR (number 628/26) was registered at the station.

Investigation and Arrests

Following the complaint, Pirbahore police launched a probe. The accused went absconding after sensing police activity. A special team, operating under the supervision of Town DSP-1 Rajesh Ranjan and led by Pirbahore Station House Officer Raj Kumar Singh, conducted intensive searches based on technical and human intelligence.

On the night of August 23, 2026, the police team cordoned off the area and arrested both suspects. They have been identified as:

  • Harsh Kumar alias Dheeraj (or Dhiraj) Kumar, 23, a resident of Vishunpura in Saran district. He is a postgraduate student in the History department at Patna University (session 2025-27), associated with Darbhanga House.
  • Vikas Kumar alias Shubhankar (or Shubhankar/Shubhankar), 25, a resident of Silve in Lakhisarai district. He is a student of the Psychology department at Patna College and was earlier linked to the 2022-25 session.

Both were reportedly residing in Hathua Hostel at the time. Police said Vikas Kumar has a prior criminal history. Investigation into their possible involvement in other cases is continuing. The probe has been assigned to University TOP in-charge Divakar Pandey in some reports.

Recoveries and Financial Trail

From the possession of the accused, police recovered the victim’s mobile phone, two SBI debit cards, and ₹50,000 in cash. The remaining balance of approximately ₹1.88 lakh in the jawan’s account has been placed on hold by the bank on police request. Further examination of the transaction trail, ATM withdrawals, and any additional digital transfers is underway.

Case Status

The two accused remain in custody. Police are interrogating them to establish the full sequence of events, the exact method of luring the victim (including the role of the person posing as a girl via Messenger or phone), the precise manner of fund transfers, and whether any other individuals were involved. Officials have indicated that the investigation will also examine any broader criminal activities linked to the duo.

The incident has drawn attention because it involves a serving personnel of a central armed police force being held captive inside a university hostel in the state capital and systematically defrauded through physical coercion and access to his banking credentials. CISF provides security to critical infrastructure across the country; such cases highlight the personal vulnerabilities that even security personnel can face in everyday situations involving online or telephonic contacts.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and the accused are produced before the court. Police have urged the public to exercise caution in online interactions and to report suspicious approaches promptly.
