The Indian Air Force (IAF) Band will perform a special patriotic musical concert at the Public Plaza, Param Yodha Sthal, National War Memorial in New Delhi on Sunday evening as part of the celebrations leading up to Independence Day. The event will also commemorate the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, “Vande Mataram,” paying tribute to its enduring role in inspiring the nation’s freedom movement and fostering patriotism.
Scheduled from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, the one-hour performance is aimed at bringing together citizens through music while honouring the sacrifices of India’s Armed Forces. Organised at the National War Memorial, the event reflects the Indian Air Force’s commitment to connecting with the public and promoting national pride through military traditions and cultural engagement.
The performance will feature a 40-member ensemble comprising 32 Airmen and eight Agniveervayu personnel, including three women. The inclusion of Agniveervayu women in the performance highlights the growing participation of women in the Indian Air Force and reflects the evolving character of the Service under the Agnipath recruitment scheme.
The band will present a carefully curated repertoire of patriotic and inspirational compositions designed to celebrate India’s rich military heritage and evoke the spirit of unity, sacrifice and national service. The programme is expected to feature a blend of ceremonial military music and iconic patriotic melodies associated with the country’s independence movement.
The concert will be led by Master Warrant Officer A. Srihari as the Principal Conductor. He will be assisted by Junior Warrant Officer Moon Deka, Junior Warrant Officer Abhishek Paul and Sergeant N.T. Singh, who together will direct the ensemble throughout the performance.
The National War Memorial, which honours the sacrifices of Indian Armed Forces personnel who laid down their lives in service of the nation, provides a fitting backdrop for the event. The performance is expected to attract members of the public, veterans, serving personnel and families, reinforcing the bond between the Armed Forces and the citizens they protect.
The musical event comes shortly after the successful conclusion of Exercise Pitch Black 2026, one of the world’s largest multinational air combat exercises hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force. The Indian Air Force completed its participation in the exercise on 7 August after operating alongside air forces from 20 other nations in complex multinational air operations.
During the exercise, Indian Air Force personnel gained valuable experience in joint operational planning, tactical coordination and multinational interoperability. The participation enabled Indian aircrew to exchange operational knowledge, refine combat procedures and strengthen professional ties with partner air forces under realistic operational scenarios.
Exercise Pitch Black 2026, conducted from 20 July to 7 August across Australia’s Northern Territory and Queensland, brought together approximately 2,500 military personnel and around 100 aircraft from 21 participating nations. The exercise focused on enhancing combat readiness, improving interoperability and strengthening international defence cooperation through advanced air operations.
The Indian Air Force’s participation in both the patriotic concert at the National War Memorial and Exercise Pitch Black 2026 reflects its dual commitment to operational excellence and public engagement. While continuing to enhance combat capabilities through international military cooperation, the Service also remains dedicated to preserving military traditions, honouring national heritage and inspiring patriotism among citizens through cultural initiatives.
