The Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regimental Centre in Jabalpur organised a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, bringing together serving personnel and their families in an initiative combining environmental responsibility with a heartfelt tribute to motherhood.
Under the theme “Honouring Mothers, Nurturing Nature,” officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and their families came together to plant saplings within the premises of the Regimental Centre. Each tree was dedicated to a mother, transforming the plantation drive into a lasting expression of love, gratitude and respect.
The initiative carried a simple but meaningful message—just as mothers nurture and protect their children, trees sustain and protect life by supporting the environment for generations to come. By dedicating the newly planted saplings to their mothers, participants established a personal connection with the broader objective of environmental conservation.
The participation of personnel across ranks, along with their families, also highlighted the collective character of the initiative. Rather than being limited to a ceremonial plantation, the event brought the Army fraternity together around the shared responsibility of protecting the environment and creating greener surroundings.
The drive formed part of the wider “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, which encourages people to plant trees in honour of their mothers while simultaneously contributing to ecological conservation. By linking plantation with an emotional bond, the campaign seeks to encourage individuals and communities to develop a deeper sense of responsibility towards the trees they plant.

At the JAK RIF Regimental Centre, the plantation drive contributed towards improving the green ecosystem within the military establishment while reinforcing awareness about the importance of maintaining and expanding green cover.
Tree plantation initiatives can play an important role in improving local biodiversity, reducing soil degradation, supporting cleaner air and creating healthier surroundings. Equally important is the long-term care of planted saplings, ensuring that plantation campaigns result in mature trees and sustainable environmental benefits.
The involvement of military families added another dimension to the event. Children and younger members of the Army community witnessing and participating in such initiatives are encouraged to understand environmental responsibility not merely as an institutional activity but as an individual commitment that can become part of everyday life.
The Indian Army has frequently incorporated environmental conservation into activities conducted across its military stations and establishments. Such initiatives are particularly significant because military communities often include large residential and training areas where sustained plantation and conservation efforts can contribute meaningfully towards preserving local ecosystems.
For the personnel and families participating at Jabalpur, however, the trees represented something more personal. Each sapling stood as a living tribute to a mother and a reminder of the values of care, sacrifice, protection and nurturing associated with motherhood.
As the saplings grow within the JAK RIF Regimental Centre in the years ahead, they will continue to represent both the personal dedication with which they were planted and the Army fraternity’s commitment towards creating a greener and more sustainable future.
Through the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, the JAK RIF Regimental Centre demonstrated how a simple act of planting a tree can simultaneously honour family bonds, strengthen environmental consciousness and inspire future generations to value and protect nature.
