Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Command, visited 39 Gorkha Training Centre in Varanasi to review training initiatives and station-related matters, with a focus on preparing young soldiers for the evolving demands of modern warfare.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sengupta witnessed a tactical demonstration showcasing the integration of drones into battlefield training. The demonstration highlighted the increasing role of unmanned systems in modern military operations and the importance of technology-enabled training in developing combat-ready soldiers.
The use of drones during the training demonstration reflected the Centre’s efforts to incorporate emerging technologies into its instructional framework. Such training is aimed at enabling soldiers to understand and effectively operate in an increasingly technology-driven battlefield environment.
The Army Commander also interacted with young Agniveers of 3 and 9 Gorkha Rifles, along with recruits undergoing training with Punjab and Grenadiers Territorial Army Battalions.
During his interaction, Lt Gen Sengupta emphasised the importance of discipline, responsibility and professional excellence. He urged the young soldiers to maintain high standards of conduct and remain committed to continuous learning throughout their military careers.
The GOC-in-C also highlighted the growing importance of responsible cyber and social media practices. He advised the young warriors to remain conscious of the security implications associated with their online activities and to exercise appropriate caution while using digital platforms.
Lt Gen Sengupta encouraged the trainees to continuously learn, adapt and develop their understanding of emerging technologies. He emphasised that the future battlefield would require soldiers who can combine traditional military skills with technological awareness and adaptability.
The visit underscored Central Command’s focus on modernising training methodologies and preparing personnel to meet emerging operational challenges. The integration of drones and other technology-enabled capabilities into training is intended to strengthen battlefield awareness and overall combat effectiveness.
The interaction with the Agniveers and recruits also reinforced the importance of professional values, technological adaptability and responsible conduct as essential components of developing future-ready soldiers.
