Surgeon Vice Admiral S Shankar, Director General Medical Services (Navy), visited INS Chilka and INHS Nivarini to review medical readiness, healthcare infrastructure and medical support available to naval personnel and their families.
During the visit to INS Chilka, Surgeon Vice Admiral S Shankar was briefed on the ab-initio training being conducted at the naval training establishment. The briefing covered the medical support framework and healthcare arrangements supporting personnel undergoing initial training.
The DGMS (Navy) subsequently visited INHS Nivarini, where he reviewed the healthcare facilities and medical services available at the establishment. The visit focused on ensuring that medical infrastructure and support systems remain aligned with the healthcare requirements of naval personnel and their families.
A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Adolescent Reproductive & Sexual Health (ARSH) Clinic at INHS Nivarini. The facility is aimed at providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare services addressing the specific health and wellbeing requirements of adolescents.
The establishment of the ARSH Clinic reflects the Indian Navy’s emphasis on preventive, comprehensive and holistic healthcare. It is intended to strengthen access to appropriate health services and support for adolescents and families within the naval community.
The visit by the DGMS (Navy) also underlined the importance of maintaining high standards of medical preparedness at naval establishments, particularly those supporting personnel during training and operational duties.
The engagement highlighted the Navy’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure while ensuring that medical services remain accessible, responsive and focused on the overall wellbeing of its personnel and their families.
