Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy held discussions with senior representatives of the Indian Army’s Southern Command and conveyed the state government’s willingness to collaborate with the Army to encourage and support Telangana youth aspiring to join the armed forces.
Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, along with senior Army representatives, met the Chief Minister at the Bhoomi Pavilion at MCR HRD. Telangana Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy was also present during the interaction.
A major focus of the meeting was the creation of greater opportunities for young people from Telangana to participate in Army recruitment. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested the Army leadership to consider conducting structured training programmes at suitable district-level centres across the state.
Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar expressed willingness to support the initiative and indicated that training programmes could be organised at selected district centres to help local youth prepare for various Army recruitment processes conducted across the country.
The proposed district-level training initiative is aimed at giving aspiring candidates greater access to guidance and preparation closer to their communities. Training centres could be established in advance of recruitment activities to help candidates improve their preparedness for different stages of the selection process.
The meeting also covered the role of the Indian Army in disaster response. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy appreciated the Army’s contribution during natural disasters and urged the military authorities to take proactive measures during flood situations in Telangana, particularly in rescue operations, evacuation of affected people to safer locations and subsequent rehabilitation efforts.
Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar assured the Chief Minister that local Army authorities would be directed to undertake special initiatives and provide necessary support during disaster situations in the state.
The interaction also touched upon environmental and civic issues concerning Hyderabad. Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar congratulated the Telangana government for undertaking the Musi River rejuvenation project, aimed at reducing pollution and restoring the historic river and its surroundings.
He emphasised the importance of cleaning and rejuvenating the Musi River for the long-term protection and development of Hyderabad. The discussion highlighted the potential significance of the project for the city’s environment and urban sustainability.
The meeting brought together issues relating to youth development, military recruitment, disaster management and civic infrastructure, reflecting the scope for greater cooperation between the Telangana government and the Indian Army.
Major General N. Srinivas Rao, General Officer Commanding, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with other senior Army officials, participated in the meeting.
The discussions are expected to strengthen coordination between the state administration and Southern Command, particularly in supporting Army recruitment aspirants and improving the Army’s role in disaster response across Telangana.
