Chandimandir, September 18, 2026: In a time-critical humanitarian mission, an Army Aviation Squadron of the Indian Army’s Western Command carried out the nighttime aerial transportation of a donated kidney from PGIMS Rohtak to Command Hospital, Chandimandir, helping save the life of a serving Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).
With the viability of the donated organ dependent on rapid transportation, the Army Aviation crew undertook the mission at night, ensuring that the kidney reached the transplant team at Command Hospital within the required timeframe.
The operation involved close coordination between Army Aviation, medical teams and the civil administration. A secure green corridor was facilitated by the civil authorities to ensure swift and uninterrupted movement during different stages of the organ’s transportation.
Following its arrival at Command Hospital, Chandimandir, a team of doctors successfully performed the kidney transplant on the serving JCO.
At the centre of the life-saving effort was the decision of the donor’s family to donate the organ following their loss. Their consent made the transplant possible and provided the Army personnel with a second chance at life.
Western Command described the operation as a mission against time, highlighting the precision and seamless coordination involved in transporting the donated organ and completing the transplant successfully.
The night mission demonstrated the ability of Army Aviation, military medical services and civil authorities to work together during a medical emergency where every minute was critical.
