Raipur, October 1, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has approved recruitment rules to operationalise the existing 10 per cent reservation for former Agniveers in selected Class III posts in the state civil services. The decision was taken on September 30, 2026, at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhawan in Raipur.
The Cabinet cleared the Chhattisgarh Public Service Former Agniveer Soldiers Recruitment Rules, 2026. The rules set out the appointment and service conditions, recruitment criteria, reservation provisions and the selection process through which the quota will be applied. Officials said the approval does not create a new reservation. It puts in place the recruitment framework required to enforce a policy decision already taken by the state government.
Under the provision, former Agniveers will be eligible for reservation in direct recruitment to the posts of constable in the Police Department, forest guard in the Forest and Climate Change Department, and jail prahari (jail warder) in the Prisons Department.
The 10 per cent reservation itself was approved by the Cabinet on July 22, 2026, through the Chhattisgarh Reservation of Vacancies in Class-III Civil Services for Agniveer Soldiers Rules, 2026. That decision fulfilled an announcement made by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in the State Legislative Assembly on July 26, 2024. It was intended to support the rehabilitation and employment of personnel completing four years of service under the Centre’s Agnipath scheme.
Eligibility under the earlier rules is limited to Agniveers from Chhattisgarh who have completed four years of service in the armed forces and have been discharged with a valid service certificate. The state government has stated that the measure is meant to open structured employment avenues for these personnel while allowing the police, forest and prison departments to draw on their training, discipline and service experience.
The September 30 approval therefore completes the administrative step between the policy announcement and actual recruitment. With the recruitment rules now cleared, the departments concerned can frame and conduct selections in which the 10 per cent quota for former Agniveers is applied to the identified Class III posts.
The same Cabinet meeting also gave post-facto approval to the Revised Guest Lecturer Policy, 2026, for government colleges and ratified an order related to the tax-free status of the film Hanuman Ansh. Those decisions are separate from the Agniveer recruitment framework.
