A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) havildar posted in Manipur has been accused of attacking and killing his wife with a sharp-edged weapon at their home in Bahu Akbarpur village, Rohtak district, Haryana, on the evening of Friday, 23 October 2026, just two days after returning on leave.
The accused has been identified as Sombir (also referred to as Sombeer), a CRPF havildar and son of Sube Singh. The victim is his wife, Manisha, aged 36 (reported as 37 in one account), a resident of Bahu Akbarpur. The couple married in 2009. Manisha, originally from Ismailpur (or Ismaila) village, is survived by two daughters, Anisha (16) and Chaksu (approximately 14). The family had no son.
According to reports, Sombir returned to the village on 21 October without informing his wife, intending to surprise her. He reportedly hid in a village street before Manisha spotted him and asked their daughter to call him home. On Friday evening (around 6:45 pm according to one police account), a domestic dispute escalated. Sombir allegedly attacked Manisha with a knife or sharp-edged weapon, inflicting severe injuries. Most accounts describe severe neck injuries consistent with the throat being slit or cut; one report mentions a stab wound to the right side of the abdomen. Despite her injuries and heavy bleeding, Manisha managed to reach neighbours for help. She died while being taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak. The incident is said to have occurred at or near an under-construction house in the village.
Sombir fled the scene after the attack and remains at large. Bahu Akbarpur police, led by station in-charge Jasbir (or Jasbir Singh), reached the spot promptly, secured the body, summoned a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to collect evidence, and registered a murder case. A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday. Investigators are examining the circumstances and allegations of prior domestic harassment. DSP Tanuj Sharma has been associated with the probe in some accounts.
Manisha’s brother, Narender (or Narendra), has alleged long-standing domestic harassment linked to the couple having only daughters. He has claimed that Sombir’s mother, Kamlesh, taunted Manisha for not bearing a son and spoke of arranging a second marriage for Sombir. Disputes involving Kamlesh and Sombir’s younger brother, Monu, reportedly led Manisha to spend nearly a year at her parental home. She returned after assurances that the harassment would cease, but the issues allegedly continued. As a result, Manisha lived separately with her daughters in rented accommodation. Narender has named Sombir, Kamlesh, and Monu in his police complaint.
Narender further alleged that, during a telephone conversation on Friday evening, Sombir threatened Manisha, saying words to the effect of “Open the door. I will kill you today.” The call was reportedly answered by the couple’s daughter Anisha, and the threat was audible in the background. Narender rushed to the village but found the house locked and later learned of Manisha’s death at PGIMS.
Narender has also claimed that Sombir was honoured on Independence Day (15 August) for killing four militants during an operation in Manipur. Neither the CRPF nor local police have independently confirmed this claim. Frequent arguments between the couple had been noted in earlier accounts.
The village has been described in other reporting as having a significant number of residents serving in the armed forces. Police continue to search for Sombir and investigate the full sequence of events and motives. No further updates on an arrest were available in reports as of 24 October 2026.
This account is based on contemporaneous reporting from The Statesman, Dainik Tribune, Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Ujala and other local sources. Details such as the precise nature of the wounds vary slightly across early reports, as is common pending full forensic findings.
