Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh Assumes Command of Army Training Command

Army Commander calls for excellence in warfare through knowledge, vision and training.

Lieutenant General Shrinjay Pratap Singh, AVSM, YSM, assumed the appointment of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) on October 1, 2026.

On assuming command, the Army Commander paid homage to the Bravehearts at the Shradhanjali Sthal and reviewed the Guard of Honour during a solemn ceremony.

Addressing the trainers and trainees of the Army Training Command, Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh commended their diligence, dedication and devotion towards training and preparing the Indian Army. He emphasised the important role played by trainers and trainees in shaping the future capabilities of the force.

The Army Commander exhorted all ranks to continue their quest for excellence and maintain the same zeal towards preparing for future wars across the entire spectrum of conflict. He stressed the importance of sustained efforts in training and professional development to meet evolving requirements of warfare.

Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh also urged all ranks to uphold the Dharma of a Warrior and strive for excellence in the art and science of warfare through knowledge, vision and training. The emphasis placed on these elements highlighted the role of professional military education and training in preparing personnel for future operational challenges.

Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment from the Indian Military Academy on June 10, 1989. During his career spanning more than three decades, he has held various command and staff appointments.

According to the information provided, he has commanded an infantry battalion in the semi-desert sector, a brigade during counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir, and a division on the eastern borders. His staff appointments have included Colonel General Staff of an Infantry Division and Brigadier General Staff at Headquarters XV Corps.

As a Major General, he served as the General Officer Commanding of 21st Mountain Division. After his promotion to Lieutenant General in 2023, he assumed command of IX Corps on June 9, 2023. He subsequently served as Chief of Staff, Southern Command, before assuming the appointment of Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency and Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Intelligence) on May 31, 2025.

On October 1, 2026, Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh took over as GOC-in-C ARTRAC, succeeding Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lt Gen Shrinjay Pratap Singh has also attended the Army War College, Mhow, and the United States Army War College, Carlisle. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Madras and an MPhil from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.

He has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Yudh Seva Medal, besides receiving a Chief of Army Staff Commendation.

His assumption of command at ARTRAC places his experience in command, intelligence, operational and staff appointments in the service of the Army’s training establishment. His inaugural message emphasised the continued pursuit of excellence and the importance of knowledge, vision and training in preparing the Indian Army for future warfare.
