Lucknow: A cab driver was taken into custody after he allegedly misbehaved with a woman military officer on the foot overbridge between Platforms 6 and 7 at Charbagh railway station. Onlookers beat him before he was handed to the police, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a case.
The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, 27 September 2026, at about 9 a.m. The Northern Railway’s Lucknow Division later confirmed that it took place near the foot overbridge leading to Platforms 6 and 7, and that the person involved was apprehended by the Uttar Pradesh GRP, with action taken under the relevant provisions of law the same day.
According to reports, the woman officer had arrived at Charbagh by train with her husband, who is also stated to be an Army officer. Saadat Ali, a cab driver from Ramnagar in Barabanki, approached them on the overbridge. He is accused of making an objectionable gesture toward the officer. Her husband caught him.
To stop him from fleeing, he was pinned down and the police were informed. People present at the spot then beat the driver. Police who reached the scene took him to the station and handed him over to the GRP.
GRP Inspector Dharmveer Singh said a case had been registered against Saadat Ali under Sections 170, 126 and 135 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. CCTV footage from the area has been examined, and the police are reconstructing the sequence from that footage and from a video of the incident that circulated on social media on Tuesday evening. The names and ranks of the officer and her husband have not been disclosed.

Headlines have described the allegation as molestation. The published accounts and the police version centre on an objectionable gesture and misbehaviour. The case is under investigation.
