Itanagar, November 1, 2026: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu held a meeting with Major General Amit Nautiyal, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s 5 Mountain Division, to discuss key developmental priorities in the state’s strategically important border areas.
The discussions focused on strengthening infrastructure, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and improving access to essential services for communities living in remote frontier regions of Arunachal Pradesh.
Sharing details of the meeting, Chief Minister Pema Khandu emphasised that improving the quality of life of border residents remains a major priority for the state government. He highlighted the importance of better infrastructure, economic opportunities and essential public services in ensuring the long-term development of these communities.
The meeting also reflected the growing importance of coordination between the Indian Army and the state administration in addressing developmental challenges in the difficult mountainous terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.
Arunachal Pradesh shares a strategically sensitive international boundary with China, making the development of its frontier villages important from both civilian welfare and national security perspectives. Improved road connectivity, communication networks and access to basic amenities can contribute to stronger local communities while supporting the broader development of border regions.

The Indian Army has been actively involved in community outreach and welfare initiatives across Arunachal Pradesh, including educational assistance, medical support and engagement with residents of remote border villages.
The state government has also been promoting development through initiatives such as the Vibrant Villages Programme, which aims to improve infrastructure, encourage economic activities and enhance living conditions in settlements along India’s international borders.
The interaction between Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Major General Amit Nautiyal underscores the continued emphasis on civil-military cooperation to strengthen border communities and promote sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh’s strategically important frontier areas.
