On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the Param Vir Dirgha at Rashtrapati Bhavan, a gallery dedicated to India’s highest military heroes.

The gallery now proudly displays portraits of all 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees, serving as a tribute to the exceptional courage, valour, and self-sacrifice of India’s bravest soldiers. It aims to educate visitors about the heroic deeds of these soldiers who displayed dauntless resolve in defending the nation and honour the memory of those who laid down their lives in service of the motherland.

Previously, the corridors displayed portraits of British Aide-de-Camps (ADCs). Replacing them with portraits of Indian national heroes is a symbolic and meaningful step toward shedding the colonial legacy and celebrating India’s rich culture, heritage, and traditions.

The Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration, recognises acts of unparalleled bravery and supreme sacrifice during war, and the newly inaugurated gallery ensures that the legacy of these heroes continues to inspire generations.
