The Low Intensity Conflict Operations (LICO) Course conducted at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS), Vairengte, successfully concluded on December 31, 2025, with 215 students completing the rigorous training programme.
The course witnessed participation from 13 officers and soldiers from Friendly Foreign Countries, including Nepal, Tanzania, Bangladesh, Ghana, Cameroon, and Zimbabwe, reflecting India’s growing role as a global hub for specialised counter-insurgency and jungle warfare training.
Focus on Modern Warfare
The Valedictory Address was delivered by Major General Kulvir Singh, SM, Commandant, CIJWS. He highlighted the changing character of warfare, driven by rapid technological advancements, evolving threat landscapes, and hybrid conflict environments. He urged the students to uphold the core military values of clarity, courage, and compassion in their professional conduct.
Awards and Honours
- Captain Shikhar Thapa of the Garhwal Rifles was adjudged the Best Student of the Officer Course for his outstanding performance and leadership throughout the training.
- Naik Sudhir Singh from the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry was awarded Best Student of the JCO/NCO Course, recognising his exceptional field skills and professional competence.

The successful conduct of the LICO Course once again underscored CIJWS’s reputation as a centre of excellence in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare training, fostering interoperability, professional excellence, and international military cooperation.
The course equipped participants with advanced operational skills essential for contemporary low-intensity conflict environments, reaffirming the Indian Army’s commitment to capacity building and leadership development in complex operational terrains.
