Air Marshal JS Mann, Senior Air Staff Officer, Western Air Command, visited a frontline fighter squadron, The Flying Lances, in his capacity as Commodore Commandant.
During the visit, Air Marshal Mann interacted closely with squadron personnel and commended them for their exceptional operational performance and rich legacy. He lauded the unit as one of the most decorated squadrons in the Indian Air Force, having been awarded four Vir Chakra (VrC), two Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) [VM (G)], and nine Mention-in-Despatches (M-in-D).

The Senior Air Staff Officer reviewed the squadron’s operational readiness, combat preparedness, and mission capability. Demonstrating hands-on leadership, he also undertook an operational sortie, gaining first-hand insight into the squadron’s flying standards and mission execution.
Air Marshal Mann praised the technical staff for maintaining high aircraft serviceability rates and ensuring mission availability, while commending the aircrew for their skill, professionalism, and operational precision.

Beyond operational engagements, the Air Marshal participated in sports and social activities with squadron personnel and their families. He appreciated the strong sense of camaraderie and esprit de corps within the unit, noting that such cohesion plays a vital role in sustaining morale and enhancing overall operational effectiveness.
The visit reaffirmed the Indian Air Force’s emphasis on leadership engagement, operational excellence, and welfare of its personnel, while recognising the Flying Lances’ enduring contribution to the nation’s air power.
