An emotionally overwhelming moment unfolded during the Army Day celebrations in Jaipur when the mother of a fallen soldier collapsed on stage while receiving her son’s gallantry award, leaving the audience in tears and solemn silence.
During the Army Day investiture ceremony in Rajasthan, Lance Naik Pradeep Kumar of 1 PARA (Special Forces), who laid down his life during Operation Sindoor, was posthumously honoured with the Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice. As his mother stepped forward to receive the medal in her son’s honour, she was overcome with grief and emotion and fainted on the stage.
Senior Army officers present at the ceremony immediately rushed to her aid. She was gently escorted off the stage and shifted to a nearby hospital in an Army ambulance, where she is currently under medical supervision. Army doctors are closely monitoring her condition.
A Hero of Operation Sindoor
Lance Naik Pradeep Kumar displayed exceptional bravery during a counter-terror operation in Kulgam district on July 6, 2024. Acting as the lead scout during a cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence inputs, he identified a concealed hideout inside a target house. When terrorists opened sudden and intense fire, he responded with remarkable presence of mind, neutralising one terrorist and effectively pinning down another, thereby saving his team.
Despite sustaining grievous injuries and suffering heavy blood loss, Lance Naik Pradeep Kumar continued to engage the terrorists, buying crucial time for his comrades to take cover. He was later evacuated by a fellow soldier but succumbed to his injuries, attaining martyrdom in the line of duty. The eliminated terrorist was later identified as a hardened Hizbul Mujahideen operative.
For his indomitable courage, fearless leadership, and supreme sacrifice, Lance Naik Pradeep Kumar was awarded the Sena Medal (Gallantry), posthumously.
