The Indian Army will conduct recruitment rallies to enlist 800 porters for a newly raised Porter Company in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
According to an official announcement, the recruitment drive will include 600 porters and 200 reserve porters for the 279 Porter Company, which is being raised under the Ministry of Defence for a period of 179 days from April 1 to September 26, 2026.
Recruitment Schedule and Locations
The recruitment rallies will be organised at seven brigade headquarters across Rajouri and Poonch between March 12 and March 19.
The schedule is as follows:
- Poonch and Rajouri: March 12–13
- Balnoi and Naushera: March 14–15
- Bhimber Gali: March 16–17
- Mendhar and Manjakote: March 18–19
Eligible candidates are required to report at the respective brigade headquarters on the specified dates for the recruitment process.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a citizen of India
- Age between 18 and 40 years
- Medically fit
Candidates must bring original documents along with five attested photocopies of identity proofs such as Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID Card or Driving Licence.
Additionally, applicants are required to present:
- Character certificate issued by the village sarpanch
- Medical fitness certificate from an authorised medical attendant
- Police verification certificate
Officials have advised eligible candidates to attend the rallies at their designated locations to complete the recruitment process.
The recruitment of porters plays a vital role in supporting logistics and operational activities of the Indian Army, particularly in challenging terrain and forward areas of the region.
