Vice Admiral B. Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Materiel (COM) of the Indian Navy, visited the Naval Ship Repair Yard (NSRY), Karwar on 13 March 2026 to review the facility’s operational readiness and maintenance capabilities.
During the visit, the Admiral was briefed on the yard’s preparedness to handle the increasing refit workload and operational tempo of Indian Navy ships, along with recent capability enhancements and upcoming projects.

Inspection of Facilities and Workforce Interaction
Vice Admiral Sivakumar toured the shop floors of NSRY Karwar and interacted with the workforce, appreciating their professionalism and dedication in supporting the Navy’s maintenance and repair requirements.
He also inaugurated an advanced Communications Laboratory, aimed at strengthening technical capabilities and supporting modern naval maintenance requirements.

Emphasis on Future Maintenance Strategy
The visit concluded with the Chief of Materiel addressing officers at the yard, where he highlighted the importance of evolving maintenance strategies to support the rapid expansion of Indian Navy combatants.

He emphasised the need to maintain focus on core maintenance tasks, efficiency and technological upgrades to ensure sustained operational availability of naval platforms.
