Lieutenant Amit Singh, commissioned into the Madras Regiment and a graduate of the 145th course at the National Defence Academy (NDA), passed away while undergoing commando training at the Commando School in Belagavi (formerly Belgaum), Karnataka.
Initial social media reports indicate that the incident occurred at the Commando Wing premises in Nanawadi, Belagavi, where he suffered a sudden discomfort while swimming in the facility’s pool. He collapsed during the activity, and despite prompt medical response, he could not be revived.
The Commando School in Belagavi (formerly Belgaum), Karnataka, is one of the most elite and physically demanding training institutions of the Indian Army. Located in what is often called the “Cradle of Infantry”, this school is a part of the Junior Leaders Wing of the Infantry School and plays a critical role in shaping India’s battlefield commandos.
The officer hailed from Haryana, specifically noted in some accounts as being from Jhajjar. He was part of the NDA 145th course. His untimely death has elicited widespread condolences across military and veteran communities on social media platforms.
