In a significant leadership development, Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, currently General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dimapur-based Spear Corps, is set to assume charge as the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Pendharkar will succeed Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, who has moved to the position of Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), marking a key transition in the Army’s senior leadership structure.
The DGMO is a crucial appointment responsible for overseeing military operations, planning, and coordination across the Indian Army, including operational preparedness and strategic responses along the borders.
With extensive operational experience and leadership in commanding the Spear Corps—one of the Army’s key formations in the Northeast—Lt Gen Pendharkar brings deep expertise in counter-insurgency and operational planning to the role.
The appointment of Lt Gen Pendharkar is expected to further strengthen the Indian Army’s operational effectiveness and strategic planning at a time of evolving security challenges.
