India on Friday successfully conducted the test firing of the Agni I short-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, according to the Ministry of Defence.
Officials stated that the launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile system.
The test was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, which is responsible for the management and operational deployment of India’s strategic missile arsenal.
The Agni series forms a crucial component of India’s strategic deterrence capability. The Agni-1 missile is a short-range ballistic missile with a strike range of around 700 kilometres, designed for quick reaction and strategic operations.
India’s Agni missile family — including Agni-1 to Agni-4 — currently covers strike ranges from approximately 700 km to 3,500 km and has already been inducted into operational service.
The successful test further reinforces India’s indigenous missile capability and strategic preparedness amid evolving regional security challenges.
