The Indian Air Force has deployed its Mil Mi-17 helicopters to assist in firefighting operations around Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh, where forest fires have posed a significant threat to the region.
According to IAF officials, the helicopters have been cleared to undertake night operations as part of the firefighting mission, enhancing the force’s capability to tackle the blaze round-the-clock.
The Mi-17 crews will also utilise Night Vision Goggles (NVGs) during the operations, enabling safer and more effective aerial firefighting in low-visibility conditions and difficult terrain.
The deployment highlights the Indian Air Force’s rapid-response capability and continued support to civil authorities during natural disasters and emergency situations across the country.
Officials stated that the aerial firefighting effort is aimed at containing the spread of the forest fire, protecting civilian areas, and minimising environmental damage in the affected region.
