Lieutenant General RS Sundaram, SM, VSM, Director General of Recruiting, visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Gaya, where he interacted with Lieutenant General Sandeep Singh, AVSM, Commandant of the Academy, to discuss the quality, aspirations and evolving expectations of candidates joining the Armed Forces.
The discussions focused on the changing characteristics of the Gen-Z generation and their implications for military recruitment, training and leadership development. Both senior officers deliberated on measures to further strengthen the recruitment and induction framework to ensure the continued selection and development of high-calibre officer cadets capable of meeting the challenges of future warfare.

During the visit, Lt Gen Sundaram also conducted an interactive session with Officer Cadets to gain firsthand insights into their experiences throughout the recruitment and induction process. The interaction covered various stages, including the application process, Services Selection Board (SSB) assessment and reporting at the pre-commission training academy.
The cadets shared their experiences, aspirations and perspectives on the recruitment journey, providing valuable feedback on challenges encountered at different stages. The discussions enabled constructive deliberations on potential improvements aimed at making the induction process more efficient, transparent and candidate-friendly.
The visit highlighted the Directorate General of Recruiting’s commitment to continuously refining recruitment procedures in line with the aspirations of contemporary youth while maintaining the high standards expected of future military leaders.
Officials noted that such interactions provide valuable insights for enhancing transparency, efficiency and candidate-centricity across the recruitment ecosystem. The initiative is aimed at ensuring a seamless, enriching and motivating experience for officer aspirants while strengthening the Armed Forces’ ability to attract and develop talented young leaders.
The engagement at OTA Gaya underscores the Indian Army’s continued focus on modernising recruitment practices and fostering a future-ready leadership pipeline capable of meeting the demands of an evolving security environment.
