Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Western Naval Command, visited INS Tanaji and the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS) on August 13, 2026, to review ongoing infrastructure and operational works at the naval establishments.
During the visit, the FOC-in-C assessed the progress of infrastructure development and operational works at INS Tanaji and the Naval Armament Depot (NAD), Trombay. The review focused on strengthening facilities and enhancing the operational preparedness of the establishments under the Western Naval Command.
A significant highlight of the visit was the inauguration of a 25-metre Containerised Small Arms Firing Range (CSAFR) at INS Tanaji. The facility is expected to provide personnel with a modern and controlled environment for small-arms training and contribute towards maintaining high standards of weapon-handling proficiency and operational readiness.
Vice Admiral Vatsayan also interacted with officers of CABS and reviewed the progress of human-resource management initiatives for serving personnel and veterans of the Indian Navy.
The interaction highlighted the importance of effective personnel management and welfare measures in supporting serving naval personnel as well as the wider veteran community. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening institutional support and addressing the evolving requirements of naval personnel and veterans.
The visit underscored the Western Naval Command’s continued focus on infrastructure development, operational preparedness, training facilities and personnel welfare. The inauguration of the new firing range, along with the review of ongoing works and HR initiatives, reflects the Navy’s efforts to strengthen its capabilities and provide modern facilities to its personnel.
