In a significant step towards strengthening cancer research, medical education and patient care, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Memorial Centre on August 13, 2026.
The MoU was signed by Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), and Dr C S Pramesh, Director, Tata Memorial Hospital, marking an important collaboration between the Armed Forces medical establishment and one of India’s leading cancer care institutions.
The partnership aims to foster cooperation across multiple areas of oncology, with a particular focus on joint research, specialised training, knowledge exchange and capacity building. The collaboration is expected to facilitate greater sharing of expertise and best practices between medical professionals of the two institutions.
Joint research initiatives under the partnership are expected to contribute towards advancing cancer diagnosis, treatment and patient-care practices. The collaboration will also provide opportunities for medical personnel to enhance their specialised knowledge and skills through structured training and professional interaction.
The MoU further seeks to strengthen institutional capabilities in cancer care by promoting the exchange of clinical knowledge and experience. Such cooperation can help enhance the delivery of specialised oncology services to Armed Forces personnel, their families and other beneficiaries of the AFMS healthcare system.
The initiative reflects the AFMS’s continued efforts to strengthen specialised medical capabilities and establish collaborations with leading healthcare and research institutions. It also highlights the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation in addressing the growing challenges associated with cancer.
